Wasafi Records is now one of the most influential record labels in East Africa and any artist signed to the label has a guaranteed shot at fame and fortune.

Branded the Magic Fingers, Lizer Classic has been in the production room for more than 11 years and has been responsible for the success of artists like Diamond. When setting up his own studio, (Wasafi Classic Beiby), Diamond entitled him (Producer Lizer) with his studio, and since then, he has never disappointed Platnumz’ fans

We recently sat with Lizer the producer behind some of the big tunes from the label as he prepares for coke studio.

Who is Lizer?

I am a normal humble guy who loves being behind the limelight, I was born and raised in Tanzania 30 years ago.

Why did you decide to produce music?

I started off as a rapper but later I decided to change to become a producer instead. I realised I loved production as I was looking for a particular authentic sound that was rare to find, and even more than I loved singing, although I was doing well in music. But in my village, I was not so famous,” he said.

Someone advised me to try Burundi, and good luck, it was not hard for me to cross there. The only challenge I had was with my family, because they did not want me to do music. On and on, I got comfortable and with God’s help, doors were opening for me and here we are now.

How is it being a producer for one of the biggest labels in East Africa?

First you got to know that I don’t realize how big we are till I’m out there and guys fuss about it. My schedule is always busy as am also growing and trying to experiment. It’s fun to work.

It does not affect me as much as I also try to keep up with the industry. However, there are simple rules in the game that keeps me afloat. One I abide by alot is; not everything is for everyone and not every song I make should be a hit. I mostly try to be true to myself and I think that helps me a lot.

Wasafi Records is growing at a very great rate. What do you think is the reason for this?

Most artists and producers who are in the label are very hardworking and that’s the main reason. Getting to the top is hardwork but maintaining the frequency is even harder. Knowing this and applying it has helped us stay on top.

How do you feel being called for coke studio? What do you expect in this season?

I am really excited and humbled to be recognized this year. It’s a sign of the work i put in. I want to assure guys that it will great and full of surprises. I don’t want to give everything away. Fans should anticipate entertainment on another level.
