During the 2018 edition of the Africa Nouveau Festival which ran from 2nd to 4th of February at the Ngong Racecourse Waterfront, Good Times Africa announced the launch of their live lookbook which was launched yesterday.
The lookbook which was made possible thanks to their collaboration with the British Council’s East Africa Arts Programme featured a myriad of fashion enterprises, designers, photographers, stylists and other actors within the fashion ecosystem from Kenya, Ethiopia and the UK during the Africa Nouveau Festival.
Attendees were invited to do fittings with designers exhibiting at the festival and participate in professional photo shoots, leading up to the digitally distributed fashion magazine with stories of the designers, their updated contacts and photographs of their work on the festival attendees.
The creative team comprised of photographers – Meklit Mersha (ET), Alex Ropes (UK), Georgina Johnson (UK), Peter Mutuma (KE); Stylists- Lucy Robi (KE), Brian Msafiri (KE); set designers Randy Pohnler (KE), Bazil Ojin Ngonde (KE); and produced by Sabrina Henry (UK) and Bryan Emry (KE).
The purpose of the magazine is to present and document to the world the fashion ideas, styles and brands from Kenya, and to make a case for cross cultural creative collaborations.
The magazine explores four main ideas – Ascension, Barbershop, Fabric and Sartorial and seeks to depicts we, young creative Africans, are reimagining ourselves by taking a contemporary look at traditional Kenyan culture, history, symbolism, style and dress.
Good Times Africa worked with a wonderful team of architects from Planning System to design the festival layout. Their responsibility on the festival was to create a suitable stage for the events of the festival: creating structures that were beautiful and in line with the theme; Afrobubblegum: fun, fierce, fantastical, art created for the joy of it; and that would provide shelter, a basic need for all participants.
It is a ‘must-read’ for all Nouveau family, friends, fans and every Afrobubblegum enthusiasts at large!
