When it comes to men and knowing when to propose, omo it’s very tricky. You may wait and wait and wait some more, or he might just be ready to take the leap when you are.
Sometimes the reason why he isn’t proposing isn’t because he does not feel the same way, but because he just needs a little nudge from you. Here are six subtle and not so subtle ways to get him to put a ring on that finger.
Do things together
It is important to do stuff with your man so that he can get a glimpse of what married life with you would be like. Do fun things together – go out to the club, have picnics, enjoy game nights, travel and so on. Do ordinary things together, too, like house chores, trips to the market or cooking a meal together, and turn these everyday tasks into fun activities. Make your man see what a great pair you are together.
Hang out with married friends
One way to get your man comfortable with the idea of marriage is to make him hang out with other married people, whether these are friends or family members. Now you should know that this strategy could go either of two ways. Seeing married people together could make him realize that it’s not what he wants, or being around couples who have made the ultimate commitment to each other could make him start to envision doing the same with you. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope for the latter outcome. Make sure the two of you spend time with happily married couples who can set a good example for your man. Before you know it, he may start to see marriage as the next
step in his life.
Hint about a big change in your life
To shake things up a bit, initiate a big change in your life such as a move to another country or city. Don’t just mention the big change in passing, make him believe you have the plans to relocate already in motion. This is another one that could go both ways, and it’s risky. He could support your big move and suggest a long-distance relationship until he decides to join you in your new country or city, at which point he’ll find out that the “big move” was all a lie, leading him to tweet “Nigerian women are scum” on Twitter. Or just the thought of you packing up and leaving him behind might be more than enough to get him to propose.
Don’t put him under pressure
Men hate this!! If you never stop talking about getting married or dropping hints about marriage, he’s going to get tired and frustrated. If you want your boyfriend to propose, ease up on the wedding talk. Don’t overwhelm the poor man or scare him into making a commitment that he isn’t ready for. You have already let him know that you want to spend the rest of your life with him, he doesn’t need to hear it every single second.
Propose
Babe, trust me, Nigerian men hate being proposed to. It wounds their fragile male ego that a woman would “do the job of a man”. As soon as he sees you getting down on one knee, even if he wasn’t planning to propose at that moment, he might just start to consider it.
